KENT – The Kent Library Association will kick off its 100th anniversary celebration with a staged reading of “Bricks and Books: A Dramatized History of the Kent Memorial LibraryAt 6:00 p.m. Jan. 29 at St. Andrew’s Church Hall, Kent.

The presentation, which traces the beginnings of the Kent Library from the 1880s until the opening of the library building on 11 November 1925, includes extracts from diaries and personal recollections of the early members of the association of libraries, minutes of early meetings and letters from the period, including one from a President of the United States.


Six readers will bring the library’s creation to life with actual contemporary tales from Kent legends such as Mary Bacon, Orinda Pratt and Helen Roberts Bull, and explain what it was called the Kent Memorial Library.

Readers include Herman Hamelink, Reverend Douglas Worthington, Lyra Wilder, Katherine Almquist, Ryan Foote, and Joanna Tucker. The reading, which will be edited by Jane Farnol, was compiled and written by Georgianne Ensign Kent. A reception follows the show, with light refreshments.

Proof of vaccination is required for participation and members of the public are required to wear masks. Please register in advance. The snow date for the show is February 6 at 6 p.m.
